Osprey Atmos AG 65 Review: Best All-Around Pack?
I carried the Atmos AG 65 on a 7-day trip in the Wind Rivers last summer with a 38-pound base weight (don’t ask). The short version: it handled it better than I did.
Fit and suspension
The anti-gravity suspension lives up to the name. Compared to a traditional internal frame, the load transfer to your hips is noticeably smoother on uneven terrain. The mesh back runs warm, but that’s the tradeoff.
Pockets and access
The top lid pocket is generous. Hip belt pockets fit a Plus-size phone. The sleeping bag compartment divider is useful about 30% of the time and annoying the other 70%.
Durability
The bottom panel shows some scuffs after a year of rocky Sierra terrain. Nothing structural. Osprey’s all-mighty guarantee should cover anything worse.
Bottom line
If you’re not going fully ultralight and want a pack that fits almost everyone and comes with a lifetime warranty, the Atmos AG 65 is the answer. It’s not the lightest option (5 lbs), but for comfort on load-heavy trips it’s hard to beat.
